Helio Ocean

As is standard around here, as soon as we added a Cingular 8525 to our cell phone arsenal here at Bachleorchic (and signed our lives away for the next two years), something much sleeker dropped from Helio. By now, you’ve probably heard about the Helio Ocean ($415), it makes T-Mobile’s sidekick look dated in comparison. This is all thanks, in no small part, to its dual sliding design which allows the Ocean to slide out a full QWERTY keyboard or just a standard numbers pad. It also packs what is quite possibly, the best implementation of various messaging and email clients and a speedy full HTML web browser courtesy of 3G compliance. The only drawback is that it’s a CDMA phone, not a GSM, which may be a problem for some users.

Optimus Maximus Keyboard

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

Optimus Maximus KeyboardWell it was literally years in the making, so long that a lot of people thought it was just vaporware and would never actually be sold. Art. Lebedev Studio, however, seems to actually be on the verge of delivering on their promise of giving consumers a keyboard with OLED screens built into every key, which essentially allows the user to not only define what every key does, but also what it looks like. The Optimus Maximus Keyboard ($1565 Preorder) is certainly flexible but is it worth the hefty price tag? It is also commonly believed that OLED screens have a short life span before they start to fade, maybe as little as a few years, but it’s hard not to admit that it’s a very intriguing toy.

Creative Zen Stone

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Creative Zen StoneThere are times when you need a fully featured iPod, such as on a long commute or a trip to outer space. Then on the other hand, there are times when you need something smaller and more manageable, for those times, maybe you’re better off with the economical Creative Zen Stone ($40). Granted, it doesn’t have the built in clip of the iPod Shuffle, but it is half the price for the same 1GB of music. It’s just as slick and simplified as the shuffle too, so if you’re looking for a player you wouldn’t feel terrible about losing on your next drunken commute home after a night of socializing, this might be it.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100We’ve been a fan of Sony’s “Cyber-shot T” cameras for some time, but as always with cameras of this size, the picture quality was never anything to write home about. However, the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 ($399) seems to one-up the previous models in just about every way, touting 8MP, 5x optical zoom and a faster shutter to go with its stylish, all-metal body. Certainly worth a look as a go-anywhere camera.

Samsung M620 “Upstage”

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Samsung M620 UpstageSprint recently announced that they would be carrying the Samsung M620 Upstage ($100 with a new contract), a phone that literally has two faces. One side gives you your standard dial pad and a small LCD for displaying call data, the reverse side however sports a larger screen and dedicated mp3 controls. The phone is indeed capable of displaying phone information on the “music face”, so don’t panic. The Upstage is pretty slick and slim, so it’s easy to pocket, and it comes with a leather case that extends battery life. Those of us that use Sprint have often maligned Sprint for refusing to jump on new, cool phones, instead of choosing to wait 6 months before getting sloppy seconds, but it looks like they may have done something right this time.

Apple Mac Pro 8-Core

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Apple Mac ProApple recently announced that they would be delaying their much-anticipated OS X 10.5 Leopard in favor of the iPhone, while there may some debate as to how legitimate this claim is (some speculate that the iPhone is having more trouble than Apple is letting on, while others claim Apple is simply dedicating more resources to the product they feel will be more lucrative), that sure didn’t stop them from pumping out this monster.

The Mac Pro 8-Core ($4000) is a professional-grade machine, you’re probably not going to be interested if all you do is surf the web and fiddle with iTunes. The exterior is unchanged, why screw up a good thing. Apple states that this beefed up Mac Pro is up to two times faster than its quad-core sibling, so if you do a lot of video rendering or any other CPU intensive work, you may want to consider one.

GelaSkins Macbook Skins

Friday, April 20th, 2007

GelaskinsPeep these amazing Macbook skins from GelaSkins ($32.95). They come in a variety of styles and sizes, so I’m sure anyone can find a print that suits them. The best part is that when you get sick of one, they peel off cleanly so you won’t be stuck with adhesive on your Macbook or little bits of paper them won’t come off without tons of elbow grease and harsh chemicals. They also sell some nice iPod skins, if you’re in the market. (via Gizmodo)

Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Nokia 8800 Sirocco GoldThere are luxury phones and then there are luxury phones, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold is one of the latter… we think. Nokia already produces a silver and black version of the 8800, which aren’t exactly a technophile’s wet dream, but deliver plenty of chic for those that are easily entranced by shiny objects, such as ourselves. The gold version (which really is coated in 18-carat gold, not just some facsimile) is the new kid on the block, and touting a hefty $1300 price tag, you better start saving up that milk money if you had any plans to own one. A nice, scratch-resistant screen capable of displaying 262k colors, a 2MP camera and bluetooth capabilities will easily get the job done for most people craving this fashion phone.

Bachelorchic Goes Live!

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Bachelorchic LogoWelcome! BACHELORCHIC is a blog dedicated to guys, and the various stuff that peaks our interest. As our manifesto states, “We cover everything from Cars and Cell Phones to Sofa’s and Books.”, but it’s not just that. You could say we’re a product blog with a heart, because we understand that even guys don’t define themselves simply by what they own.

We may be just at home in a sports bar, downing beers and buffalo wings as we would be in an art museum, bettering our knowledge on those that came before. So you can expect to see your fair share of hip items featured here, but don’t be surprised to see articles about how to better yourself right along side.

So we say again, “Welcome”, and take a seat. I think we’ll get along just fine.

What is BACHELORCHIC?

We are a weblog dedicated to scouring the web in order to bring guys the latest, most happening things out there. We cover everything from Cars and Cell Phones to Sofa’s and Books, so bookmark us and check back often, you never know what we’ll discover together.

THINK YOU CAN DO THIS?

We’re looking for more writers, so if you feel you have something unique to contribute to BACHELORCHIC, then please email us with writing samples.
