Samsung M620 “Upstage”
Sprint recently announced that they would be carrying the Samsung M620 Upstage ($100 with a new contract), a phone that literally has two faces. One side gives you your standard dial pad and a small LCD for displaying call data, the reverse side however sports a larger screen and dedicated mp3 controls. The phone is indeed capable of displaying phone information on the “music face”, so don’t panic. The Upstage is pretty slick and slim, so it’s easy to pocket, and it comes with a leather case that extends battery life. Those of us that use Sprint have often maligned Sprint for refusing to jump on new, cool phones, instead of choosing to wait 6 months before getting sloppy seconds, but it looks like they may have done something right this time.
28 Weeks Later
We were fans of 28 Days, it takes a lot of guts to tackle a zombie movie and not turn it into a disaster, so we’re equally as excited about the upcoming sequel, 28 Weeks Later (May 11, 2007). Taking place six months after the original, the country is in lock down, and the government claims the zombie infection has been squashed… however, if we’ve learned one thing, it’s that just because some head honcho claims “Mission Accomplished”, doesn’t necessarily make it so. The twist is that the virus seems to have mutated, the infected no longer have that whole brain dead, Frankenstein thing going on… although I’m pretty sure that whole flesh eating business is here to stay.
Metropolis Wall Clock
Got a lot of bare walls and looking for something to fill up that space? Give the Metropolis Wall Clock ($130) from Crate & Barrel a shot. Measuring in at two and a half feet in diameter, it’s as much a statement as it is functional. In spite of its size, the numbers and hands are both sizable, and the minimalist treatment of the type and monochrome color scheme help give it a modern look. It also runs on three AA batteries, so there won’t be any ugly cords to try and hide. Just make sure you mount it well, you wouldn’t want this behemoth knocking you senseless the next time you’re trying to do the deed.
Dune Daybed and Ottoman
If you’re lucky enough to have a large deck or spacious balcony, the the Dune Daybed and Ottoman ($3,166) may be just what you need for the many warm and sunny days to come. With its curvy design, which features a tabletop area, and large sitting space, it’s perfect for an evening get-together or just spending some alone time flipping through the Sunday paper.
Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses - 3 Pack
If you’re anywhere near as careless with your sunglasses as we are, you’re likely to go through a handful before the summer is out. If that’s the case, then there’s no sense is spending $100+ on a designer set when you know you just might end up sitting on them. That’s why we’re high on this three pack of Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses ($15) , via Amazon. They seem well made, at least according to the reviewers who have given them a 5 star rating, plus if you don’t like em, you’re only burning 15 bucks. No biggie.
Heritage linen military-style shirt
We’re located on the east coast and got our first dose of real spring weather over this weekend, it was beautiful out and reminded us that it is finally time to completely dump the winter gear and pick up some fresh gear. We’ve always loved linen shirts for their simplicity and how light they feel when worn, the Heritage Linen Military-Style Shirt ($78) from Banana Republic is no exception, even if it is a little more decorated than your typical linen button-up. They would look great with a pair of jeans and a simple pair of sneakers.
Wüsthof Culinar 7-Piece Knife Set
There comes a time in every bachelor’s life when he realizes that plastic utensils and paper plates just won’t cut it anymore, if you’ll pardon the pun. A good place to start is with a high quality knife set, such as the Wüsthof Culinar 7-Piece Knife Set ($460) from Williams-Sonoma. They’re pricey, sure, but they are precision crafted in Germany, so you know you’re paying for quality. The seven-piece set includes a 3 1/2″ paring knife, 4 1/2″ utility knife, 8″ carving knife, 8″ chef’s knife, 8″ bread knife, 9″ sharpening steel and an oak block with slots for 9 items. The stainless steel and artful construction of the knives also make them suitable for open display, don’t hide these bad boys away in a drawer.
“Water, Just Water” Tee from Threadless
A lot of guys gave up on wearing tee’s with logos after grade school and adopted the graphic tee’s that better represent their own sense of style, instead of reducing them to a walking billboard. If you failed to pay attention to the water cycle in high school biology, the “Water, Just Water” tee from Threadless will help refresh your memory. Oh, and it looks pretty good too.
Apple Mac Pro 8-Core
Apple recently announced that they would be delaying their much-anticipated OS X 10.5 Leopard in favor of the iPhone, while there may some debate as to how legitimate this claim is (some speculate that the iPhone is having more trouble than Apple is letting on, while others claim Apple is simply dedicating more resources to the product they feel will be more lucrative), that sure didn’t stop them from pumping out this monster.
The Mac Pro 8-Core ($4000) is a professional-grade machine, you’re probably not going to be interested if all you do is surf the web and fiddle with iTunes. The exterior is unchanged, why screw up a good thing. Apple states that this beefed up Mac Pro is up to two times faster than its quad-core sibling, so if you do a lot of video rendering or any other CPU intensive work, you may want to consider one.
